Identity Theft on Facebook

Facebook logo

A few months ago, a cousin called my attention to the presence of a newly created facebook account at the time, with whoever created it posing as me. My picture was used for the profile picture, my personal information used as well, which included educational attainment and schools attended. Then facebook friends were invited to "add as friend" the said account. Hundreds right away did.

What was the intention of the administrator for creating that account? Am I that much of a threat to someone's personal intention, that had them taking such a low-life action?

This was clearly an identity theft. People who knew me personally soon realized the deception. A misspelled word on the account name. Rude replies to messages from "friends." Posts that clearly intend to discredit me to the public.

Numerous reports were sent to facebook management. Still, the account exists. Probably because it has lots of "friends" added to it, unfortunate people made to believe it was really me that invited them to add "me" as friend. The thief continues to misinform the public through posts on the said account, still pretending to be me.

This is to let the local people know that the only legitimate account I have on FB are rachel santos oca for anybody and anything related to Pandi/Bulacan, and rachel santos-oca for the rest.

I guess most will know that we should not believe everything we read on the internet. Smart people don't.

As for the thief, the authorities have ways of tracing such illegal and malicious acts. Not to mention the karma that might bounce back big time.

And, from now on I will try to update constituents of my activities through this blog (that previously I did not consider imperative) for them not to be misled by false information, and even by the so-called "envelopmental media."

"Correct information. Professionalism in Public Service."
